Connecticut to Participate in the Health Care Payment Learning and Action Network

May 2nd, 2015

On March 25th, the Health Care Learning and Action Network was launched with the announcement made by President Obama and Secretary Burwell at its first meeting at the White House.

The network is broad, including state representatives, employers, health plans, providers, business leaders and consumers attended. Connecticut was represented by Mark Schaefer, Director of the State Innovation Model Initiative Program Management Office.

This initiative is intended to accelerate the transformation of the nation’s health care delivery system to one that achieves better care, smarter spending, and healthier people by supporting the adoption of alternative payment models.

Discussions focused on the importance of developing a national framework and alignment on issues such as quality measurement, attribution, and payment models, while allowing for local flexibility and innovation.

The Learning Network comes at an opportune time for Connecticut, which has recently received a State Innovation Model Test Grant to work on many of the themes of the Learning Network, including quality measure alignment, and value-based payment models. The Network will provide a key resource to State Innovation Model workgroups in addressing challenges and identifying opportunities.
